A fun, laid back countryside wedding in Berkshire
Don’t you just LOVE a barn wedding venue?!
Herons Farm Barn near Reading was the ideal choice for Tanya and Thomas’ countryside wedding. Set in 450 acres of meadows, woods, and farmland, Herons Farm is a little slice of tranquility in the beautiful Berkshire countryside. And all the original features of the barn have been preserved, giving the venue a rustic, laid-back vibe. Perfect if you’re looking for a barn wedding venue in the UK.
And I think this is why a barn wedding venue, in general, is becoming so popular. Because they give the whole day a completely chilled-out, intimate atmosphere you don’t get with the grander, more traditional venues.
The vast surrounding countryside also gave us endless opportunities to go exploring for the couple’s portraits. And I’m not going to lie, as a Berkshire wedding photographer, having so much natural beauty on my doorstep is definitely one of the perks of the job!
How to be the best Best Man
As any wedding photographer will tell you, Best Men and Ushers aren’t usually as involved in the day as Bridesmaids and Maids of Honour are.
But these guys came through with flying colours! Thomas opted out of having just one Best Man, choosing to share the honour between his three best friends. And it was proof that good things come in threes! It turned the Best Man speech into an electric group performance, with the three of them taking it in turns. It was absolutely hilarious, full of heart and energy, and definitely one of the Best Man (or rather, ‘Best Men’) speeches I’ve ever experienced.
And they didn’t stop there, the Best Men were the gift that kept on giving! Tanya and Thomas’ first dance song was performed by two of the Best Men. One playing guitar and one singing, it was awesome. So much more meaningful than the standard recorded track. And really fit into the laid-back, personal vibe of the day.
A flash of pearl in a sea of blue
Tanya looked stunning in her wedding dress from Sofi Designs Bridal. With a sleek silhouette, a plunging sweetheart neckline, and bodice detailing, the elegant gown looked breathtaking in the rustic setting of the barn.
And for the rest of the wedding party, accents of blue punctuated the theme of the day. Thomas and his Best Men’s suits, the bridesmaids’ dresses, the children’s clothes. They were all different shades of blue, tied into Tanya’s look by the subtle flashes of blue from the thistle in her bouquet.
Love, nature, and the beauty of the great outdoors
You should never underestimate the impact a gifted florist can have on the overall look of your wedding. And Tanya and Thomas made the perfect choice for their florist with Country Gardens Flower Co. Their work not only looked stunning but so beautifully captured the essence of the whole celebration.
Tanya’s bouquet was perfectly crafted to tell the story of the day. The classic beauty of the pink and peach roses was balanced by the rustic grace of thistle and wildflowers. It all came together into a little hessian-wrapped bundle that celebrated love, nature, and the beauty of the great outdoors.
This was my kinda wedding!
