What to expect from your maternity photography session with me

As a family photographer in Newbury, I get to capture families at all different stages of their lives. Whether it’s a pregnancy photography in Newbury (Berkshire) with an excited mother-to-be. Or a family session in Reading, filled with children’s giggles, sibling teasing, and a whole heap of love. Whichever it happens to be, it’s always an absolute honour to be a part of every family’s journey. And it’s one of my life’s great joys. To watch your family change and grow as I capture each milestone along the way.

And this is why I absolutely love pregnancy photography sessions. Because I get to join you at the very start of your amazing journey into motherhood.

But what can you expect from your pregnancy photography session with me? Well, let me tell you! ….. Actually, even better, let me show you!

I’m going to use Fliss and her gorgeous family to demonstrate everything that you can expect from your pregnancy photography session with me. From my style of photography and the session itself, all the way through to the finer details of when and how to book. Hopefully, this will answer any questions you might have. And get you all excited for your own maternity shoot in a few months’ time!

The story of this particular Berkshire pregnancy photography session

I’ve had the absolute joy and pleasure of photographing Fliss and her beautiful family over the last couple of years. Watching as they grew from three, to now four! We even decided to celebrate the news of Fliss’ newest pregnancy with a beautiful sunset family shoot amongst the daisy fields (I seriously need to blog about that session too!!).

Fast forward a few months, and it was time for her maternity photoshoot with me.

Fliss had booked a couple of nights away in this gorgeous little cottage nearby. So we decided to coincide her stay with her pregnancy photography session with me.

Your Berkshire pregnancy photography session experience

Maternity sessions are so beautiful and I always feel so incredibly honored to be chosen to document this precious time in your life.

Pregnancy is an incredible miracle, isn’t it? But let’s face it, it’s an uncomfortable miracle, all the same! So my number one aim here is to make sure that your session with me is as relaxing, comfortable, and enjoyable as possible.

These sessions are about capturing and celebrating your ever changing body. And being a Mother myself, I understand fully how unbelievably precious this time is and how important it is to document this beautiful journey.

When you look back on your photos in years to come, I want you to see your absolute best self, glowing with new life and brimming with excitement for the arrival of your child.

To make the experience as easy and stress-free as possible, all of my pregnancy photography sessions get access to my tailored pre-session questionnaire. So I can get to know you long before I meet you. And I’ll also send you a ‘what to wear’ guide, which offers loads of advice on how to get the most out of your session.

And Fliss was a star pupil! She came along with loads of different choices within the brief. So we got to have a play around and see which worked best.

Location options for your maternity shoot

A lot of expectant mothers choose to have their pregnancy photography sessions in the comfort of their homes. You’ll have all your creature comforts within arm’s reach. And if you already have the nursery ready, we can do ‘before and after’ shots when it comes to having your newborn shoot!

Another option is to have your maternity shoot outside (obviously when it’s warmer). In the summer months, the hour before sunset (‘golden hour’) gives you astonishingly beautiful light and a golden hue to the photos. Imagine yourself surrounded by nature, with your beautiful bump on show and the setting sun behind you. Now those will be photos you’ll have printed and framed!

Or you can even do what Fliss did and coincide it with a cottage/hotel stay! Honestly, there’s no right or wrong. It’s your day, your shoot, and your miracle. So whatever makes you happiest, I’m here for it!

When should you have your maternity shoot?

I always recommend booking your shoot between 35-37 weeks. This is the pregnancy photography sweet spot where you’ll have a beautiful bump. But you’ll still be comfortable enough to fully enjoy the experience.

Ideally, I’d recommend getting in touch with me to book your session once you’ve had your 20-week scan. Simply because I do get booked up quite solidly sometimes. So it’s best to get it in the calendar sooner rather than later just to be sure.

My photography style is relaxed, timeless, and natural. I want to give you photos that capture this incredible, fleeting chapter in your life and keep it safe for you. Photos that’ll still be as beautiful and beloved in decades to come, as they are today.

But my aim isn’t for the session to just be a means to an end for the sake of the photos. I want you to look forward to having a couple of hours away from the stress and pressure of preparing for the arrival of your baby. To have time set aside purely to celebrate your amazing body and the miracle of life.

If you’re looking to book your pregnancy photography session in Berkshire, I’d be delighted to hear from you. Please get in touch today to check my availability. And if I don’t hear from you, congratulations on your pregnancy, and my very best wishes for your big adventure into motherhood,

Lots of love, Jennie xx
