As a newborn photographer, I was beyond excited to finally be in a position to photograph this gorgeous family from (near) Newbury. I was meant to visit them and their baby boy back in January but thanks to COVID, we delayed everything until I finally managed to meet them in April, almost 4 months later.
Before arriving, I knew I needed to keep the session moving quickly as Amy & Toby also have a 2-year-old son. As a mum myself, I’m fully aware that 2-year-old boys can easily become distracted. And boredom can strike quickly. So by keeping it moving and making sure everyone was involved, we kept the interest going. Which meant we managed to get some amazing full family shots.
Of course, there are still times when a 2-year-old needs to let off some steam and run free for a few minutes. We used these times wisely though and decided to slow things down a little. It also meant that we managed to get some quieter moments with the newborn on his own.

One of the benefits of choosing lifestyle newborn photography over the more posed variety is that there is no optimum age. With the more posed option, they are normally photographed in various strategically placed positions. Which does mean they ideally need to be young enough to sleep for the majority of the session. This is why they need them to be between 7 and 14 days old.
Lifestyle newborn photography is so much more relaxed. Here we concentrate on capturing the love & connection between everyone. It’s about recording those little family moments and the tiny details that you’ll look back on and cherish in years to come. And as there is no need to ‘pose’ your newborn, there is no ideal age. Whether they are 2 weeks old or 6 months old, the images will look just as amazing!!
