My favourite weddings as a Newbury wedding photographer
As a Newbury wedding photographer, I’ve been lucky enough to visit some stunning venues all across Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and the Cotswolds. But it’s not the venue that makes a wedding special. It’s the people involved, and the meaning behind it. And that’s why I absolutely loved Helena and Will’s wedding. With the love of family at its core, nestled amongst the trees of the orchard in Will’s family home.
Will sadly lost his mum two years ago. So they wanted to do everything they could to still have her as part of their wedding. And even though she wasn’t there to help plan, having the wedding in her home meant they were still surrounded by her love and memories. She was ever-present throughout the whole day.
But this wasn’t the only reason I loved this wedding. Having the whole day in the family home & grounds made everything so wonderfully relaxed, laid-back, and personal. The rustic, yet elegant styling, the cosy tipis nestled in the orchard, and the hilarious Best Man’s speech. Plus the fact Helena and Will laughed and smiled their way through the whole day. It all came together to make an unforgettable day.
If you’re planning to have a home wedding, this is brimming with inspiration. And if you’re still undecided, this might just sway the balance!
Elegant-boho wedding styling inspiration
Forest Edge Tipis are fast becoming a favourite hallmark of Newbury wedding photography! They have an amazing ability to turn any patch of grass into a stunning ceremony and reception area. And this opens up so many wedding venue possibilities.
Helena and Will styled out their tipis with a cascade of fairy lights, lanterns, and festoon lights, transforming the space into an illuminated fairyland. Plus they contrasted the boho setting of the tipis with elegant white roses and greenery. Running along the tables and hanging delicately from the beams, the floristry was beautifully understated. And perfectly in sync with the elegant-boho style of the wedding.
Fun wedding ideas
Will and Helena’s wedding wasn’t just beautifully styled, it was so much fun! The best men acted out Will and Helena’s first date as part of their speech. And finished the hilarious performance by handing out a round of Jaeger Bombs (which were partly to thank for the wedding)! If you’re trying to think of best man speech ideas, a performance like this is such a unique and fun idea.
They also had loads of games for the guests to play, including beer pong. There was a polaroid station in the tipi so the guests could stick their photos in the guestbook, and little chocolates all over the tables for the guests. It was such a fun day from start to finish, filled with fresh, fun and original ways to make the wedding first and foremost a celebration.
Helena is renowned for being the life and soul of the dance floor. And so for the evening party, they had both a band and a DJ! And trust me when I say, the dance floor was packed!
Advantages of a home wedding
If you’re looking for somewhere relaxed, welcoming, and fun to have your wedding, you may have to look no further than your own back garden. Providing your garden’s big enough! But why are at-home weddings becoming more and more popular?
Firstly, there’s the cost. Because not only will you save a fortune on the venue hire, you won’t have an eye-watering bar tab to worry about either! Even if the Best Man starts handing out Jaeger Bombs! And what should you do with all the money? Do the house up, of course (it is your wedding venue, after all)!
And it’s so personal. Your wedding day will be one of the most exciting, amazing days of your lives, and having it in your home makes it all that more special.
And last, but certainly not least, is the fact that all the advantages of your house are within walking distance. Having a familiar space you can go and relax, touch up your makeup, get changed, or even just have a lie down for five minutes. It really is a blessing!
Looking for Newbury wedding photographer?
I love working with couples like Helena and Will. Because for them, their day wasn’t about the spectacle of the wedding, it was about their love for each other, and their connection with their family and friends. And I feel like it’s my job to allow my couples to truly enjoy their day, not interrupt it.
And so as your wedding photographer, I won’t be forever asking you to pose, create false moments or repeat things just so I can get a photo. I’ll allow you to savour every moment of the most exciting, romantic day of your lives. Capturing your day in a natural, honest way, and giving you photos that transport you back to how you felt in the moment.
