#1. Why an in-home Newborn Photoshoot?

So why an in-home newborn photoshoot? Well you know that old saying? “Home is where the heart is”, well, never a truer word.

This is our safe place, this is where we feel our happiest and its bursting at the seams with so many memories.

Its where we watch our children grow. Where we laugh, cry, even scream! Here we bask in the joys and battle with the lows, but its all ours and its so very special!

To me, as a Mother & a Photographer I am so aware of the importance of documenting our homes as well as our families. When we look back on our images in years to come, it won’t only be about the gorgeous family moments that we’ll reminisce over, but it’ll also be about those details that we have since forgotten. That old family sofa you had cuddles on every day, the kitchen table where you enjoyed those noisy, chaotic dinner times, their bedroom where you read that same story night after night. It reminds us of those little details that we so often forget and for me, thats what being a photographer is all about.

An in-home Newborn photoshoot is real and organic, I am simply there to capture your life as it is now. Full of real interactions and connections between one another. Those little moments that you’ll want to remember forever. The fun, the laughter, the kisses and the cuddles.

I’ll be there to guide and lightly pose you, then ready to step back and watch the natural moments happen, there to record the everyday beauty that makes your family beautifully unique.

#2. What should I do to prepare my house for an in-home newborn photoshoot?

This has to be the most commonly asked question I get, and I totally understand that. It feels like the pressure is on, that we need to do a deep clean from top to bottom to make our homes 100% Instagram perfect, but this really isn’t the case. All I would recommend is a quick tidy up before I arrive, just to move the every day clutter that I know I am totally guilty of having. Plus, as long as you are happy, I’ll also move the odd item if I feel it would improve the shot.

#3. What rooms do you photograph in?

As a rule of thumb I’m normally looking for the rooms with the most natural light available, whether it be the kitchen, lounge, parents room or children’s room, but each house is obviously very different from the next. I’ll normally start by asking if you can show me around a little, so I can work out where the best spots will be.

Please don’t worry if your home doesn’t have a massive amount of light though, honestly you’ll be surprised with the little pockets of light that I find and make work.

#4. Whats the best time of the day for the session?

Well this is dependent on when the light is best in your home, but normally I find its between mid morning and midday.

We’ll also need to consider any nap times for your younger children and work around these if possible.

#5. What if my older child wont behave!?

Kids will be kids, look I get it! I am also a Mum, I have two gorgeous girls who love each other dearly one moment, then can’t bear to breathe the same air as each other the next!!

This is a huge time for them in their little lives, with so many changes going on its not surprising some might behave a little unpredictably. Don’t worry though I have plenty of tricks up my sleeve! We’ll play a few games, maybe even sing a few songs (not that I’m trying to put you off here!!), and we’ll find lots of ways to get them engaging with your newborn without them really realising. And sometimes we’ll simply roll with it as this is often when their little personalities shine!!

#6. When should I book my in-home newborn photoshoot?

I would suggest around your 20 week scan would be ideal. My calendar fills up so quickly, especially in the summer months. Plus due to the nature of newborns and the fact that we never quite now when they will decide to make an appearance, I always like to hold a couple of reserve dates off as well, just in case they decide to arrive a little earlier or later than expected!
